About S&A Swimming
-
Our Team
S&A is a personal, hands-on approach to teaching swimming. Our family of teachers works in the water with students, demonstrating, encouraging, and charting each student’s progress.
-
Classes & Pricing
Classes meet in small groups by skill level. Individual classes are available for those who cannot meet the schedule for groups or need individual attention.
-
Level Guidelines
If you are new to our program, this general guideline will help you select your child's class level. There are always exceptions on a per-student basis. If you aren’t sure which level your child should be in, feel free to contact us.
-
Location
Our swim classes are located in Irving, TX, just South of Hwy 183 at a residence. The exact location will be given after registration for the sake of children’s safety. Our pools are temperature controlled and mostly shaded from the sun.
What Our Parents Say
Why are parents asked to remain out of view?
We achieve better results if we have the child’s full attention.
FAQs
How do you handle frightened children?
We personally explain to the child that we will hold them, support them, and keep them safe at all times. We will never release them unless we tell them. Every day, we will ask them to do 3 hard things. If they meet these three hard choices each day, they will lose their fear. We tell them they can search for it, but it will be gone. Fear disappears when you meet the fear. If they are tearful, we sing, play, add drama or whatever it takes. However, in the midst of the fear, tears, etc. we continue to teach. We explain, demonstrate, then all students take a turn. They learn and gain confidence from watching others. We try to send them back to you happy at the end of each class. There are exceptions, as no course of action works with every child. We only ask that you commit to bring them every day.
Why are goggles not allowed?
If a child learns to swim with goggles, they will never be comfortable without them. If they enter the water unexpectedly, they will not be wearing goggles. They must adjust to the wet eyes for safety. We do allow children in advanced classes and some of those in private lessons to use goggles.
How can I be sure my young child is in good hands if I cannot observe their class?
You may observe another class and watch our teachers in action. You can also ask parents who have worked with us for years. We have been teaching for over 50 years.
Do the children earn one badge each year? How do you determine their level?
Each child moves at their own pace. A child with deep seeded fear may only learn to play in the water, and for them, that is great progress. From there, they can move forward. Others move through one or two badges in a two-week period. Some badges traditionally challenge a student enough that two summers are usually required to finish. We encourage growth; the badges are only a compass to show us the way.
Do you offer make-up classes in the event of a rainout?
When possible, make-up classes are scheduled. We only make up classes we cancel due to weather or emergencies.
